Chthonic vocalist Freddy Lim has joined Taiwanese government in Taipei’s 5th district and will now represent the pro-democracy New Power Party.
The 39-year-old vocalist defeated renowned legislator Lin Fu Yang of the Kuomintang Party (KMT) by more than 6000 votes, not bad for a metal vocalist if we do say so ourselves. The New Power Party which Lim stands for is a pro-democracy party, founded in January 2015. Created as a result of the 2015 Sunflower student movement, the party supports universal human rights, civil and political liberties as well as ensuring Taiwan’s independence remains protected as a sovereign state.
The NPP has grown to become the third biggest party in Taiwanese government, surpassing KMT due to the countries youth disagreeing with their core motive of reunification with China. Speaking to reporters at a campaign rally on Thursday Lim stated: “”From my point of view, Taiwan should become a ‘normal country’ step by step.
“Taiwan will only be able to safeguard its freedom and democracy after becoming a normal country.” Worried Chthonic fans worry that the frontman’s new political agenda will interfere with the bands touring schedule, however speaking to TeamRock Lim assured that the band won’t suffer to greatly and that they’re hoping to release a new album next year.
