Californian rockers Hoobastank are back with a new single ‘Push Pull’, the title track from their upcoming sixth album, due out on 25th May. The track, which sees the band team up with producer Matt Wallace (known for his work with Maroon 5 and Faith No More), comes with a lyrics video which you can watch below.
Hoobastank have come a long way from the nu-metal/grunge sound that made them famous, and the result is almost unrecognisable. ‘Push Pull’ is the sound of the band completely and unashamedly embracing their pop side, with clean, bouncy guitars and an emphasis on Doug Robb‘s falsetto vocals.
Our first impression is that fans of Hoobastank’s older music may well be disappointed with this new direction. However, if you’re into poppier music you might appreciate the fun, dancey nature of the track and its catchy chorus. Give it a listen and see what you think!
