The Maine came to Warped Tour UK armed with brand new material from their latest album, Forever Halloween, we chatted to Bassist Garrett Nickelsen and Drummer Pat Kirch just before they were due to play on the second day of Warped. It was going to be their third set of the weekend, which show this band have a brilliant work ethic!

HTF: How is the day treating you so far?
Pat: Its been good, we are just getting going, we played two sets yesterday, so we are just getting ready to play today

HTF: How did you find the sets yesterday, obviously one was acoustic and one was full band
Garrett: They were fun, both completely different kinda sets, yeah it was a lot of fun.

HTF: And you are playing today
P+G: Yeah man

HTF: 3 sets in two days, thats pretty impressive, how are you feeling?
P: You know on tour everyday, we get kinda used to it.

HTF: Did you guys party last night?
P+G: haha yeah
G: yeah we went in hard last night, we are hurting a bit today, but we are going to be okay

HTF: haha just play through the pain!
G: haha YEP!

HTF: Latest album, Forever Halloween came out this year, hows the reaction been in the UK?
P: Its been great, we did some headlining dates in between the warped tour dates this weekend, all the new songs have been going down great with the fans.
G: Its been awesome

HTF: You have played the Warped Tour in the US, how does the UK one compare to it?
P: A lot different just because it being outside
G: its completely stretched out over a parking lot, so its like this empty lot and then 8 different stages and its outside, its hot. Here its all in one building, where there is only a handful of stages to play.

HTF: Yeah especially this time of year, where it is absolutely freezing
P+G: haha yeah
G: Got to love the British Weather

HTF: You just toured with Anberlin, how was that?
G: It was awesome, they are great dudes, i know these guys since they were a lot younger, it was cool.

HTF: What Bands are you excited for?
G: We are kinda doing stuff all day so its hard to catch some of the bands we like, but you know Rise Against
P: Hopefully be able to catch their set.

HTF: Have you heard about the A Day To Remember set?
P: haha yeah, they are actually playing during our set
G: yeah so we’re fucked haha

HTF: Whats the first album you ever bought?
P: Savage Gardens first records
G: The bad things you do, the movie soundtrack for that

HTF: The First Gig ever went?
P: The first one i went to that I actually brought myself to was Blink 182, New Found Glory and Midtown.

HTF: Wow I bet that was insane!
P: Yeah it was in 2001, it was awesome
G: I saw third eye blind in 1997 or 8, i was in like third grade.

HTF: Which band did you first fall in love with?
P+G: New Found Glory

HTF: After Warped Tour UK what is your plans for the rest of the year?
G: After this we go to France, then Spain and we are going into mainland Europe for a bit, then we go back home and put out an acoustic ep and then we will do a little tour over there for that.

HTF: That’s cool, do you reckon you will bring that to the UK?
G: Hopefully, if it goes well

HTF: Thanks for your time and good luck with your third set!
P: Hell yeah! thanks man
G: Thanks dude
