Interview – Hacktivist – HTF Firsts| Leeds Festival

Hacktivist sat down with HTF at this years Leeds Festival. Did they have what it takes to answer the questions in ‘HTF Firsts”?

Although they had a storming set at Reading Festival sadly due to technical problems Hacktivist couldn’t play their Saturday main stage set at Leeds Festival. Despite being bummed out the band still agreed to sit down with Hit The Floor. Hopefully the ‘HTF Firsts’ line of questions would lift their collective spirits.

HTF – First time you ever ended up in hospital

Ben (Vocals) – “I’d bever ever been to hospital till about two or three years ago, I had my tonsils out as I kept getting tonsilitis, went to hospital had them out and this is where it becomes quite a good story! After the op the doctors said I had to be supervised for 40/50 hours, after the op I woke up in the middle of the night and blood was just pouring out from my mouth. I was rushed to Northampton Hospital where I was kept in for about a week, they had to shove this thing down my throat to suck all the blood out. On the plus side I was given loads of morphine. It was about a week later I was reading the newspaper and I saw a front page story about a girl who had died from the very same thing. It’s like a two percent chance of it happening. If I wasn’t rushed to hospital there is a good chance i would of died. That was my first and only time in hospital.”

Tim (Guitar) – “That’s why you shouldn’t be in a metal band kids. You may die!”

HTF – The first song you ever wrote?

Ben – “I remember mine, I was about 12 and jamming with some mates from school. We wrote a song, it was called ‘All Alone’ and it was pretty depressing. It wasn’t a full band, just guitar, bass, vocals. Yeah, it was just shit.

HTF – Your first one night stand?

Tim – “What are we supposed to say about that? Their names? My first one night stand was when I was like 17, it was a girl and I didn’t ring her back making it a one night stand and also my first.

HTF – The first time you embarrassed yourself in public?

Tim – “Well it was just going into public haha”

Rich (Drums) – “I think mine was my first school play. i was about seven years old and had to play the comedy dame. I was Puss In Boots and I was the dame.”

Ben – “I had something similar. I think it was a Nativity play and I was one of the shepherds. I have always loved music, always loved acting so wanted to throw myself into the role. All the other shepherds turned up with their clothes on, dressing gowns over the top, kind of half arsed. I turned up in just a sack. 2000 years ago, shepherds. Did they wear dressing gowns? Or did they wear sacks?”

Rich – “Potato sacks?”

Ben – “Maybe I went too far but I looked most legit. I had to do the full hour journey there, do the play and back home in just a sack. For the play it fitted but other than that it didn’t. Actually is wasn’t embarrassing to me, maybe other people”

Josh (Bass) – “I remember my most embarrassing moment!”

Ben – “Note how everyone jumps on the embarrassing tale question?”

Josh – “It was the last day at school. I was playing in the school band, we were doing a little piece in assembly. Apparently I won an award but I wasn’t paying any attention as I was staring at my music. When I did notice and headed down to get it I fell off the stage onto my face. In front of the entire school. On the last day. I’d kept it cool for so long, all through my entire school life and then this happened on the last day. The lasting memory people would have is me falling.”

Tim – “Forever known as floor boy.”

HTF – First time you noticed you had started puberty?

Tim – “I grew hair. You want a date? I don’t remember, I think i’ve always had hair, i’ve got Italian in me so i’ve always been a hairy chap. I think I started of as a pube. I grew into a human so the first time I noticed i was a human and not a pube was when I was about two.

(At this point the band find a suspicious mushroom looking item on the table and start questioning if this is possibly a butt plug. We never found the answer to this question).

HTF – The first crime you ever committed?

Tim – “Oh my god I can’t answer this question!!”

Rich – “I stole something from the tuck shop at school”

(At this point the band lay into Rich, calling over part of their crew to do an impression of the unimpressed drummer).

Tim – “Ok, mine was arson. It was group arson. Some guy messed with some guy so we did it in front of him. I’m not proud of it but we burnt this car in front of the owner.”

Ben – “On that note a shout to our fans. To those who haven’t seen us come check us out, there is a chance you may love us, hate us, we think you will love us. Sorry to everyone who had come out to see us today, it’s a bummer, we don’t feel great but I guess it’s just one of those things, sadly it was at a time when a lot of people had come to see us. We have a UK tour this coming winter, all sorts of amazing dates and great supports so come out and see us and new album out early next year. Peace!”
