Having just finished the last stint of their Seaside Rendezvous tour, Hit The Floor caught up with Fearless Vampire Killers frontman Laurence Beveridge, to discuss all things music. From Drew assaulting the vocalist with a bass, to the band’s new album, that’s been produced by William Francis, here’s what Beveridge had to say…
HTF: How’re you guys? Hows tour been treating you?
LB: Tour has been treating me terribly, Drew assaulted me with his bass in Margate and smashed my lip open. I couldn’t kiss myself in the mirror for days! But no, it’s been pretty raditude. We love the boys in LostAlone and their music ain’t to shabby either, so we’ve had a great time!
HTF: It’s been busy few months for you guys. First you headlined the red bull stage at download. Did you enjoy it?
LB: Yeah, despite some erroneous reports, Download fucking owned. We came on stage to the Lion King soundtrack to at least 600 loyal fans and we blasted their faces with epicosity. Job done.
HTF: You were playing when Slipknot were on. Was it difficult it was coming up against them on the other stage?
LB: We didn’t care, we played one of their songs just in case a fan of theirs watched the wrong show.
HTF: You played last year’s Download as well, how did the crowd compare?
LB: Who knows. Probably less than last year. Oh the shame! Fuck the shame. Party on. This year they were all our fans, instead of a 40% disinterested, lost drunkards.
HTF: You’ve just come back from America to record your new album. How did you find it?
LB: Damn epic. We worked our little asses off, frolicked in hot-tubs and drank too much.
HTF: It was produced by Will Francis. Who approached who?
LB: I guess it was a mutual thing, though I remember speaking to Will on our first tour with William Control and him saying “when you going to let me record your record”. I guess it just developed from there.
HTF: How did the recording go? Did you do most of the writing out there?
LB: We wrote almost all the songs before we got there in a couple of weeks. When we were there we adjusted some stuff, but not that much.
HTF: Do you feel your music has evolved at all from your first record?
LB: Yeah, it’s heavier and more absurd.
HTF: What can we expect to hear from the new album?
LB: 70% more riffs, 20% more harmonies and 190% more awesome.
HTF: Do you have a release date yet?
LB: No. Not a sausage.
