eaf Havana released their third album ‘Old Souls’ a few weeks ago which shot straight into the top ten (well deserving!). The band are heading out on tour soon in support of the album, so if you haven’t got tickets make sure you do! We caught up with frontman James Veck- Gilodi after the album release.

Check out what happened when we spoke to James right here.
HTF: First off congratulations on your top 10 album, how did you celebrate?
James: We were in London and had some food but our van got broken into and our stuff was taken so not so good but still good to celebrate!
HTF: When not on tour, what’s a typical day in the life of Deaf Havana?
J: Nothing really, we’re quite boring to be honest, we eat, drink and sleep which isn’t a problem for me, especially the eating!
HTF: What has been the most poignant part of the journey?
J: I don’t know, maybe our last tour when we ended up at Shepherd’s Bush Empire and that was the first gig where I was really like ‘wow people were coming to see us, I’d say that for sure.
HTF: With Zane Lowe now supporting your music, how does it feel to finally get the credibility you deserve?
J: It’s pretty good, it’s a long time coming as we’ve never had much backing from radio so it’s really nice to have it but it is nice to finally be, I guess a credible band as we were is such a weird thing as for ages we had such bad songs and now we’re out of it, it feels great.
HTF: What’s the best compliment Deaf Havana has received and who by?
J: Maybe when we played Hard Rock Calling and there was a 40 year old guy who I never expected would listen to our band and said he really liked our songs, that would be one of my favourites.
HTF: Apart from music what else inspires you?
J: Lyrics wise just life, stuff that’s happened and terrible decisions I’ve made and a writer called Charles McKulsky who influences me, just everything!
HTF: What other musical pursuits have you got?
J: Just keep growing, you get more credible and hopefully more shake off that original thing that we had really when we were a different band really but just to build our credibility and hopefully people will keep seeing us and buying our records. To have it all clear would be perfect but I don’t know how realistic that is.
