Currently working on their forthcoming album, Hit The Floor caught up with Bristol four-piece Ashestoangels, to discuss all things music. The band gave us a sneak peek into their world and opened up to us about every, including their latest single ‘Dorian’ and upcoming tour. Here’s what front man Adam Crilly had to say…
HTF: Hey Guys, how’s it going?
AC: Good thank you! We are all missing tour, so we’re booking the next one.
HTF: For our readers who haven’t heard of you, sum up who Ashestoangels are in three sentances.
AC: Ashestoangels are Goths playing punk rock with synths. We play it as hard as we can. We suck at writing about ourselves.
HTF: You’ve just released your latest single Dorian. How has the fan response been to it?
AC: Amazing. We have the best fans and a lot of them where quite familiar with the track from live shows, so it is great to get it out there for everyone to hear. We’ve been opening shows with it and the crowd response is pretty much instant and overwhelming.
HTF: Could you tell us a little bit about the video and how the theme of it fitted in with the track?
AC: Rather worryingly when I read Dorian Gray I can draw some parallels with my own experiences, because I also have a painting in the loft that is suffering in my behalf – I’m joking! I don’t like to explain my songs too much so rather than focus on what the song is really about, we did a video based on the story. It had more scenes and characters but we had to make some cuts.
HTF: You’re ready to release your album next month. How was the recording process?
AC: Hard work but rewarding. Nico had an existential crisis and had to hide in a duvet fort at one point. But it was worth it, can’t wait to do the next one.
HTF: What music inspired the album?
AC: Anytime I know we will be hanging out with Will [Francis] I like to go on a bit of an Aiden listening spree to get it out of my system. I think that definitely influenced the number of gang vocals.
HTF: Do you think your music has evolved since you started the band?
AC: Absolutely. I think I am getting closer and closer to what I was trying to do when I started this band.
HTF: You’re one of those bands who like to be here, there and everywhere and constantly seem to be touring. Do you have any upcoming tours?
AC: We finished last Saturday, it was the best 2 weeks of my life. Next tour is September 20th-29th – that’s some exclusive info that isn’t announced yet!
HTF: What’s been your favourite tour?
AC: The Dorian tour we just did. Pretty much every show had a crowd of 50-60 people – even in towns we had never played and they knew all the words! It was hot though, 30 degrees most days. Plus I was really sick the whole time, but it was still the best!
HTF: What does the future hold for Ashes?
AC: I think that if we keep working as hard as we are, we could be the best live band anybody has ever seen – so it’s good to have goals. We just want to keep building.
HTF: Finally, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
AC: We love you. And when you order merch I look at your houses on Google maps. Nice trampoline.
