Fearless Vampire Killers co-frontman Kier Kemp recently took part in a live debate on Channel 4 news with John Snow and the Sunday Telegraph’s Colin Freeman.
The debate concerned the issue of Greater Manchester police now recording assaults against members of alternative subcultures as a hate crime.
Kier defended the decisions, claiming “people don’t choose to be defined in a certain way” and “Goths don’t label themselves, and are simply victims of their own influence” Whereas Colin felt that the resources used to respond to such crimes should be allocate to groups who had no choice with their appearance
Greater Manchester Police’s policy change follows consultation with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation who have been campaigning for the hate crimes remit to be extended to include people from different subcultures since Sophie’s death in 2007.
Fearless Vampire Killers have always been active and vocal supporters of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, and are very pleased that Sophie’s family and friends have reached such a milestone in their campaigning work.
