10 Cocktails Suitable To Drink At Slam Dunk 2014

With Slam Dunk just around the corner, we’ve decided to compose a list which prepares your liver for the days antics. Here are the cocktails you should be drinking during each band’s performance.

Let’s face it, alcohol and festivals go hand-in-hand. From the classic can of cider to endless shots of spirits and liquor, everyone’s prone to having the odd drink or five. When it comes to watching our favourite bands, Hit The Floor are no different.

In fact we have plenty of stories to tell when it comes to festival drinking. Our Editor In Chief met our Electronic Editor during a drunk pillow fight at Reading, and spent part of Sonisphere festival with a plant pot on his head thinking up ways he could plank a horse.

One of our photographers ended up having sex with what he assumes to be a tiger due to the scratch marks that scarred his back. Oh and let’s not forget one of our interviewers who fell in a poo stream and ending up with an infected leg because of it.

In the middle of all of that, there was also the times where we woke up in random tents, or on stages if you’re our Urban Editor, stole peoples tents and dragged people out of tents kicking and screaming – quite literally.

With Slam Dunk just around the corner, we’ve decided to compose a list which prepares your liver for the days antics. Here are the cocktails you should be drinking during each band’s performance.

Please drink responsibly!

All American Rejects

Hailing from sunny Oklahoma, it’s enviable that the only cocktail you’ll drinking during All American Reject’s set is the Oklahoma Cooler. Sure to tingle those fruity taste buds, simply mix together Melon Deoria, vodka and cranberry juice. Add a splash of 7-Up or Sprite and stir gently. For those feeling extra bold we recommend upping the vodka and garnishing with a slice of lime and maraschino cherry.

Blitz Kids

If you’re a Blitz Kids fan why not opt for Joe’s Killer Bee? We’re talking about the cocktail… obviously. The daring drink features Canadian whisky, Tennessee whisky, bourbon whisky and one hell of a lot of Bacardi rum. Finish the killer hit off with sweet and sour mix and cranberry juice, before clinging on to a friend whilst dancing the night away to all your favourite Blitz Kids songs.

Bury Tomorrow

There were a few drinks we could have recommended for Bury Tomorrow’s set. Red Lion and Southampton Slam being two that come to mind, but instead we went for one that’s slightly less well known, Dani’s Jet Fuel. Cheeky by name and cheeky by nature, the cocktail is a brew of Captain Morgan’s orange rum, blackberry brandy and pomegranate liquor, mixed with a can of Red Bull or Rockstar. Sure to give you a blast of energy, who know’s maybe Dani’s Jet Fuel has the ability of taking you to another planet?

The Devil Wears Prada

Arguably our favourite of the bunch, Fashion Victim is the only thing you’ll want to consume during The Devil Wears Prada’s performance. A mixture of citrus vodka, curaçao, cosmopolitan mix, grenadine syrup and Sprite, we’d be lying if we said our Fashion Editor wasn’t prone to having a couple of glasses of this cocktail. Or anything else alcoholic for that matter.

Gnarwolves

Sex on Brighton Beach is as basic as it sounds. Nonetheless it’s the perfect drink to have when it comes to watching Gnarwolves. 1 part vodka and 2 parts Cherry Sours, for those feeling ultra rebellious we recommend doubling the quantities. After all, a little alcohol never hurts anyone… right?

I Killed The Prom Queen

1 part sunshine. 1 part Aussie. 1 part beards. The possibilities of I Killed The Prom Queen cocktails were endless. From an Aussie Attitude Adjuster to a pitcher of Beard Love, we eventually opted for Down Under Fizz – with 3 parts vodka you can’t really go wrong. Finish off the drink by mixing the vodka with orange juice and lemon juice, before topping up with soda water. Hit The Floor is not responsible for the addictive nature of this one.

Kids In Glass Houses

Drink the Titanic as you dance along to all your favourite Kids In Glass Houses song’s for one last time. Sure, we could have recommended Novocaine or The Golden Dragon, but Titanic seemed more suitable. Whether it will be the hearty blend of vodka, dry Martini bianco, Galliano and blue curaçao that gets your eyes watering or the band’s full-length live performance of Smart Casual, will be debatable. Either way, we recommend bringing a pack of issues as we watch this ship come to a blissful, somewhat unexpected, holt.

Less Than Jake

Less Than Jake On The Rocks would have been the obvious recommendation. But, in case you haven’t gathered, us lot at Hit The Floor like to have a little more fun when it comes to our drinks. With this is mind, we’re not sure about you, but we’ll be drinking a Skatini. The magazine’s very own concoction, the Skatini recipe involves the same ingredients as your typical Martini. Gin? Check. Vermouth? Check. Lemon? Check. The only difference being with our version you turn up the music and listen to your favourite Ska band.

Mallory Knox

A glass of Lighthouse would have been too predictable and who really wants to drink the infamous Sea Breeze at a festival? Instead the team will be enjoying Mikey’s Lime Lounger. Just like the name states, Miley’s Lime Lounger is packed full of tropical fruit. Just mix together Everclear, Sprite, Mountain Drew, lime mix and, of course, Captain Morgan’s coconut rum.

Neck Deep

For those who crave all things sweet, Ben’s Orange Cream is the ideal drink for Neck Deep’s set. How do you experience this, you ask? Simply pour Cointreau, cream and gin in a glass before adding sugar syrup. But fret not, if Ben’s Orange Cream isn’t for you there’s always a Gentle Ben

Disclaimer: We did not create these cocktail recipes and despite our staff’s previous unruly behaviour the magazine does not encourage binge drinking – unless we’re invited of course, then that’s a different story. Please drink responsibly and be safe!
