This tour Blitz Kids‘ vocalist Joe James has been on vocal rest, and this leaves us wondering what we can expect from his performance tonight, but overall he impresses us. It’s clear from the start that he is going to be leaning on the audience more than he perhaps normally would. There are times such as in ‘Sometimes‘ and ‘All I Want Is Everything‘ where even the instruments drop out leaving the crowd to belt out the lyrics with no music to compete with: and they really are beautiful moments. The only downside is that during ‘Run For Cover‘ a break like this puts the band out of time with the backing track.

Slower track ‘Keep Swinging‘ has everyone swaying their arms while ‘On My Own‘ gets a brief and small mosh going through one of the chorus’.
‘Sold My Soul‘ is either a highlight or a disappointment tonight depending on how much you want to hear Joe’s vocal. While his voice seems on point during the verses he skips out singing the chorus leaving it up to the audience with some help from Jono Yates.

We’re not really sure what makes it such a special occasion but we aren’t complaining as it really is a good cover and fills us with nostalgia.
The set closes on a high with the bands latest single ‘Perfect‘ and, as always, it’s a crowd favourite with everyone singing, dancing and punching the air in time. Joe even jumps on the barrier singing with the crowd.
Overall it is a good high energy show, with a very enthusiastic crowd, despite the lack of Joe’s vocal at times.
