Blondie’s Debbie Harry has recently put controversial pop star antics into perspective, commenting ‘’Iggy Pop has been twerking for most of his career’’.
The comment came in response to the Guardian’s questions regarding Debbie Harry’s thoughts on the controversial performance styles of some of today’s pop stars such as Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus. Her comment definitely goes some distance in reminding critics of todays current pop stars that controversial acts have always been a part of the industry and that Miley Cyrus’s twerking antics are nothing new.
Her comment flags up the sexually suggestive movements and other controversial behaviour that were commonplace in the performances of Iggy Pop not to mention the now infamous gyrating movements of Mick Jagger and of course Elvis even before the Rolling Stones.
Debbie Harry admitted however that there certainly is a lot more nudity in today’s pop industry but commented that she feels Lady Gaga does things in a ‘’very artistic way’’.
