Ash frontman Tim Wheeler has announced a debut solo album ‘Lost Domain’ is set for release on 3rd November via Sony Red. You can view the tracklisting and hear the track ‘First Sign Of Spring’ below.
The record addresses Wheeler’s dealings with his father’s death from dementia and the subsequent effect it had on him and his family. Talking about the situation Wheeler said “It was a really hard time, but the closeness within my family made it a powerful bonding time as well.” A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the album will go to The Alzheimer’s Society, whom Wheeler has worked with closely since his fathers death. Discussing the tie up Wheeler said the following: “After losing my father to dementia, I felt the need to personally do something to fight Alzheimer’s. My friend Neil Hannon from The Divine Comedy’s father also has Alzheimer’s so we put on a concert in Belfast in November 2011 with The Divine Comedy, The Undertones and Ash to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society. Since then I’ve had close links with the Alzheimer’s Society and this year was involved with the Dementia Friends campaign. I’m proud to continue to support them and raise more awareness with the album ‘Lost Domain’.”
Wheeler is credited with playing the majority of instruments on the album himself, although he does reel in some help from ex-Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows, Fred Aspelin of Alberta Cross and London Metropolitan Orchestra among others.
Wheeler is famed as the frontman for Ash who released their first micro-album ‘Trailor’ 20 years ago. Their most recent release was the A-Z series which saw a new Ash song released every two weeks for a year. The project ended in 2010 and the band are currently working on new material for release in 2015.
