Not Everyone Hates U2 – Here’s Ten Reasons Why U2 Are Great!

With some of the bad press surrounding ‘Songs Of Innocence’ and it’s release, it’s perhaps hard to forget that U2 are actually great. Here’s 10 reasons why!

It’s been rather difficult to avoid all things anti-U2 on social media recently (not forgetting some pesky HTF writers) . Yes you have a free new album on your iPhone. Disaster. But how many of these haters actually bothered to listen to the album before emailing Apple with a barrage of hatred?  Songs of Innocence may not be U2’s greatest work, but it’s certainly not offensive. Talk about first World problems!

So now the (i) cloud of anger has drifted away, it’s time to remind everyone of why U2 become so massive in the first place.

1. ‘I Will Follow’
Their breakthrough single that the band still play live 35 years later, is a gutsy, spiky number that fitted in well with the post-punk generation; and what a sublime introduction to The Edge’s guitar sound!

2. Bounce Back Ability
They fell into the difficult second album trap and made the rather forgettable October, but were able to lick their wounds and create War, the bands first classic album. It helmed the singles ‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday‘ and ‘New Years Day‘ – a track that has been used a blueprint by bands like Coldplay, Editors and White Lies.
