When a band contains members ranging in age between just 14 and 21 there is little surprise that their comparably young years demand attention. Fortunately Kent based The Hotelles have significant substance to support what could overshadow their music. ‘Movie Reel’ – the band’s third single – retains the jovial undertones that were evident on the previous tracks, while offering a nod to turn of the century indie stalwarts through subtle hints of distortion and drawn out vocals. Frontman Tom Easton leads the track with cracked vocals that sit upon the nostalgic instrumentation.
The video – directed by fellow Goldsmiths student Amanda Tooke – mirrors the contradictions of the track; showcasing the DIY ethos when it comes to production. The charm of both the song and the visual aesthetic are maintained through simple videography with an artistic flair.
