BBC Radio 2 has launched a poll in search of the greatest ever guitar riff.
The poll, which anyone can vote for, was opened today (July 14) by presenter Simon Mayo. The poll is a part of BBC Radio 2’s Guitar Season, with the options being narrowed down to 100 riffs selected by a panel of music experts.
Listeners can vote for their favourite here, with the winner being revealed on the station on August 25. The 100 songs include the likes of The Smiths’ ‘How Soon Is Now’, The Beatles’ ‘Day Tripper’, Link Wray’s ‘Rumble’, Focus’ ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘Oasis’s ‘Cigarettes And Alcohol’.
Speaking about the poll, Jeff Smith – Head Of Radio 2 Music said: “We’ve all been brought up with the most amazing guitar riffs throughout the history of pop music, but our trusty panel have drawn up a strong and eclectic mix we know our Radio 2 listeners are going to love.”
