World-renowned Australian music festival Big Day Out, has been cancelled for 2015. The festival that has been on the calendar for Australians for nearly 22 years, has hosted a vast array of artists, not limited to, but including; The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, and Kraftwerk.
The news follows after a deal that makes US-based company, C3 Presents, the sole owners of the event, having already acquired half the festival’s ownership back in 2011. Shortly after the news emerged, and festival-goers expressed their uncertainty as to the future of the festival, the company issued a statement,
“C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world. While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015. We love working on BDO and are excited about the future. “
Fans took to Twitter using hashtags, “#BDO”, “#BDOMemories”, and #”RIPBigDayOut”, exhibiting their thoughts and memories of the festival. Aussie band, Dune Rats, soon followed the trend posting on their Facebook, “R.I.P Big Day Out. We had good times there, our first festival experience.”
