Riddled with a youthful flair, CAGECITY is arguably Hit The Floor‘s new favourite fashion outlet. If it isn’t their work with bloggers, which caught our attention, it’s their vast range of on-trend designs that leave the team endlessly scrolling through page after page of internet bliss. Swoon. Catching up with the brand’s founders Nadine and Leyla, we were eager to find out more about CAGECITY and the inspiration behind it. Here’s what they had to say.
HTF: Hi CAGECITY! Could you tell us a little bit about the brand?
CC: CAGECITY is an online women’s clothing store. We stock up and coming brands, unique handmade items made up of mini collections from up and coming designers and vintage.
Our aim is to inspire girls to wear what they want, where and when they want and not giving a damn! Our ethos is all about being true to yourself and your own individual style and not being intimidated by fashion but to embrace it any way you want!
HTF: Who are the founders of the brand and how you describe your own individual styles?
L: The founders are to South East London girls, Nadine and Leyla. My style is dependent on my mood, I don’t have a set style I just dress how I feel. Although I often channel my inner goth. I love anything with a 90’s grunge feel!
N: My style is really hard to determine because it changes daily! I wear whatever makes me feel good! Referring to what i am wearing today, i would describe it as edgy with a bit of a cheeky sexy twist!
HTF: Sounds great! Tell us about the inspiration behind CAGECITY?
CC: The inspiration for CAGECITY actually came from when we were both traveling, the care free life. We were dressing however we wanted, really embraced our individuality and style, which we had never fully done before and it felt so good. CAGECITY really is about the message and attitude that we show through the brand and clothes. Street style is of course a big inspiration for us too!
Our pieces vary in style, we choose a variety of pieces that appeal to every girl and every mood. Which is why we a have variety of sections on the site, ‘Clothes’ is made up of brands MinkPink, Evil Twin, StyleStalker, Finders Keepers and more to come. ‘Handmade’ is mini collections from up and coming designers, all unique and exclusive to us, and there’s also ‘Vintage’ – because every girl loves a sweet bit of vintage clothing.
HTF: You work a lot with bloggers. How important do you think bloggers are in today’s society?
CC: We love Bloggers! It’s amazing how the blogging phenomenon has changed the fashion world. It’s allowed real girls to show there style and inspire their readers. It makes fashion less intimidating and a lot more attainable, girls look at bloggers as opposed to celebrities and know where to get that item from, or get style inspiration that they can work with. It’s a great community for fashion!
HTF: Do you have any favourite bloggers?
CC: Loads! Big and small. We’ve worked with quite a few on our ‘CAGECITY Meets’ feature that hits every Monday. The feature showcases stylish girls in the creative industry, girls who are inspiring and we believe our customers would like to know about. We get them to come by CAGECITY HQ choose 6 looks and style them in their own way. We then do a photoshoot and hold an exclusive interview. Obviously meeting the girls puts them on a favourite list! Some we’ve worked with include: Lucy of Lulutrixabelle, Sara of WAISTE, Zoe of LondonLipgloss – all absolute babes!
More favourites are: Victoria of InTheFrow, who we actually got in as the face of CAGECITY! Check her out on the site, total hottie! Kavita of She Wears Fashion, Erika of Handful of Fashion, Kayla of Kayla Hadlington, Lua of Le Happy, Vanessa of The Haute Pursuit, Chiara of The Blonde Salad, Christina of Trop Rouge, Stef and Jess of How Two Live. We really could go on! We have so many favourites!
HTF: What can we expect from your forthcoming SS14 collection?
CC: Exciting things! Our handmade section is expanding, it’s getting bigger and better! We’ve got some more designers joining our existing ones who we have given the platform to sell their unique concept designs. They showcase their mini collections on CAGECITY and we bring their brand to our customers. Helping building the bridge between fresh designers and the girls looking for more than what’s on the high street. The best thing is it’s all one-off and excusive to CAGECITY so our CAGECITY girls can be confident they’ll be the only one’s wearing the piece! We’ve also got a new brand joining us for SS14, London based Bitching & Junkfood, which we’re super excited about!
HTF: Do you have a favourite piece from the new collection?
CC: There’s so many! We’ve featured some from our SS14 press day which you can see on the site!
HTF: Tell us! Who’s the CAGECITY girl?
CC: A CAGECITY girl is a fun loving, free spirit who doesn’t give a damn what people think of her! You’ll find her at a festival, a rave, in a pub or anywhere having a good time! She wears what she wants.
HTF: Whats a typical day like at CAGECITY HQ?
CC: A day filled with passion and love of what we do. We’re always smiling and working hard on pushing the brand as far as we can!
