In the latest Slam Dunk Festival 2016 lineup announcement on February 10th, it was announced that pop punk legends Yellowcard are going to be playing their fourth studio album, Ocean Avenue, in full. The album’s Wikipedia page states it was “the band’s major label debut and brought them to prominence”, and truer words just can’t be said. Ocean Avenue is held dearly in the hearts of all fans, sporting hits such as ‘Way Away‘ and ‘Only One‘, as well as the titular track.
For the album’s 10 year anniversary back in 2013, Yellowcard embarked on a full US tour where they played the album in full… but UK fans were left out! The news that they will be performing it start to finish on the Slam Dunk stages is almost too good to be true, as not only will it allow so many more people to witness the event, but it will also be the first time that they will be playing the festival — quite surprising, since they’ve been around for so long!
This year’s Slam Dunk Festival has changed things up quite a bit. While North remains on the Saturday of May Bank Holiday weekend in its age old home of Leeds, Midlands will now take the Sunday spot as it removes to a new location at Birmingham’s NEC and South will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday at the University of Hertfordshire. Yellowcard taking to the stage at such an iconic day festival which has been running for a decade… well, it just seems apt, and it no doubt won’t be the only special performance that the festival has to offer for its ten year anniversary.
Yellowcard’s performance of Ocean Avenue in full is exclusive to the festival, meaning if you don’t go along and check it out… well, you’ll likely never have the pleasure! Make sure you buy your Slam Dunk Festival tickets here to make sure you don’t miss out. You can check out the full lineup to see who will be joining Yellowcard below!
