2006 was quite a year for rock and metal, with album releases from the likes of Mastodon, Killswitch Engage and Billy Talent joyfully pleasuring our earholes. Feeling a little nostalgic, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane and revisit the albums that rocked our world a decade ago.

Mastodon – Blood Mountain

Mastodon‘s third opus is an ambitious work of grandiosity, featuring complex time signatures, intricate and masterfully executed guitar passages, and conceptual lyrics. From the catchy yet heavy ‘Crystal Skull’, to the cataclysmic ‘Bladecatcher’to the serpentine ‘Capillarian Crest’, it’s an acid trip of a joyride from start to finish. A collection of experimental serendipity, Blood Mountain saw Mastodon unleash their most progressive work yet.
