The Amity Affliction after the release of their new album This Could Be Heartbreak have created an extremely emotional video for ‘All Fucked Up.’ From what the title implies, the main victim in the video is suffering from extreme alcoholism which is set up at first by a few scenes depicting a desperate man in need of help with no shoulder to lean on for support. The situation becomes almost too real when the song commences and there are very strong emotive moments.
Overall the video is very emotive apart from when the camera angle moves focus onto the band where they appear very desensitized to the situation which is occurring. This seems very unsettling at the time of watching but on contemplation this can be the reaction of the onlooking crowd because of the unfamiliarity of this downward spiral.
The mannerisms and habits of the central victim are heartbreaking to witness as too many bottles of beer are consumed as he is then kicked out onto the curb where he is further ignored of existence and in the need of help. Ignorant bliss is what we as the public can adopt but that one change of view is all it takes for realisation which rapidly comes crashing into the mind of the almost too late rescuer – or so we hope.
The reality check occurs when the rescuer who is almost too late passes a church where vulnerable children are seen singing “will you save my life, or just say goodbye” as he rushes towards his neglected friends house in hope to not find the worst.
The video ends with a desperate grip onto the victims legs as both of his feet are planted on the table so hope would assume a leap from the ceiling fan was not made, much to our broken hearts relief after watching this video.
The Amity Affliction take no subtle approach for this video and therefore it plays directly at your heartstrings because the saddening events are inevitable. The creation of the video is sadly beautiful and a tear can easily be summoned to your reddening eyes as you can’t dare take your gaze off the compelling video.
