We all know what brutality goes does down in a mosh pit, that’s why people enjoy them so much. It’s the only place in the world where you can swing your arms around, kick out your legs and scream like there’s something wrong with you, without being judged or worse, banned from public places. However, in this assumed man’s domain, should we be paying more attention to the girls?
Girls like to lose their shit too and man, are they good at it but should we be making sure our maidens in the mosh pit are kept out of harms way? Should their safety be paramount?
Popular opinion states, no it should not. No more than anybody else’s safety at least.
We should always try to think secondary to ourselves and try our best to look out for the vulnerable or those less able to fight their way from the floor, but when it’s just the girls safety in question, there isn’t anything to suggest that a woman can’t handle herself in a mosh pit and, at the high risk of sounding fiercely feminist, there is no doubt that she probably wouldn’t have dived in in the first place, if she didn’t know what she was getting into.
That being said, every single person at a gig, not just in the most pit, should be treated equally and to be looked out for as if they were family because that is what we are; a sweaty, loveable family. If you see somebody lose their feet or get caught up in the crowd, pick them up, dust them off and let them get back to having a good time.
However on behalf of all women, we do appreciate the concern and would of course just love to go home without a black eye but, where’s the fun in that.
Girls, boys, give us your thoughts….
