Introducing: Ashestoangels

HTF caught up with Bristol synth punks Ashestoangels for a chat about their upcoming album, see what they had to say here!

Bristol’s Ashestoangels have been supporting William Control on his recent UK tour. HTF caught up with lead singer Crilly to chat about their upcoming new album and their plans for the rest of the year.

HTF: How would you describe your sound?

Crilly: Synthy Goth Punk.

HTF: Tell us how the band came about.

C: Me and the old guitar player started Ashestoangels when I moved back from Canada. We had one band practice and started booking shows. Worked out okay in the end!

HTF: You’ve had a few lineup changes over the years.. How has that affected you as a band?

C: It took us a long time to find the right people. This is the perfect lineup though, never been happier.

HTF: What’s your biggest achievement so far?

C: It’s hard to pick a single thing. We are all hugely proud of what we have achieved as a band, and we are always pushing to improve, and do more.

HTF: What can we expect from your debut album?

C: Dynamics! It’s fast, heavy, slow and pretty. Hopefully will have people singing along in no time.

HTF: What was the recording process like?

C: Like being death punched in the ego over and over again. William made us rewrite the entire album. It was hard work but was absolutely worth it. Writing and recording an album in 14 days is pretty tough going.

HTF: How did you end up working with William Control on the album?

C: Twitter! He tweeted something about doing production for bands and we sent one back saying ‘what about us?’. Then he messaged us. Was pretty crazy, we are all big fans of his so it was a bit strange at first.

HTF: You’re known for having a close relationship with your fans. Why is this so important to you?

C: They are the best. Without them we would be nothing, and they are so good to us, so we try our hardest to give as much back as we can. We’ve met so many amazing people through the band, and so many talented artists! Some of the stuff we get sent is just amazing.
They let us into their lives, and we are so grateful for that.

HTF: What are your goals for the next year?

C: Would love to play some festivals, and maybe get on a tour where we are not headlining!

HTF: You’re from Surrey originally, how is the music scene there different to Bristol?

C: There are so many venues in Bristol, and the city is so compact. It’s much easier to build something here, and it feels like we are from somewhere. Ashestoangels, from Bristol Town. Works much better than Ashestoangels, from Blackwater, Westbyfleet, Aldershot and Frimley Green!

HTF: Any shows coming up?

C: Yeah! We have:

Swindon – Riffs Bar – 23 May
Bridgend – Hobo’s – 7th June
Then we are on tour July 5th – 19th, just booking that now but at the moment we have:
Guildford – Commie – 6th July
Basingstoke – Live – 14th July
Plymouth – White Rabbit – 16th July
Bristol – Fleece – With Fearless Vampire Killers & HDE – 17th July
Tunbridge Wells – Forum – With Fearless Vampire Killers & Ugly Love – 18th July
The Fleece – Bristol – 16th August

And we have Whitby Goth Weekend in November with William Control and FVK.
