The Front Bottoms have spent the past few years making a name for themselves no matter where they travel in the world. We caught up with guitar/vocalist Matt Uychich at this years Leeds Festival just before their highly impressive showing on the Lock Up Stage to ask them their HTF Festival Firsts……
HTF – When was the First time you were starstruck
Brian – “One time I met a guy called Adam from an amazing band called Leagues Apart“ (HTF note – Adam just so happens to be The Front Bottoms tour manager and is standing here pointing to himself)… “I was like ‘holy shit’ and he was all like ‘Get in the van, i’m driving you to your next show’. Man that was a trip for me”
HTF – What was the first crime you ever committed?
Brian – “When I was a kid I stole a pack of gum from a store on the corner. I was nervous as hell at the time but it all worked out. Actually can I change that, it’s boring. I killed someone once, when I was 15, yeah that’s righ….. I killed a man haha.”
HTF – The first holiday you remember?
Brian – “Well not vacation holiday but like holiday i remember was Christmas when I was a kid. I was in first grade, all my cousins came over, we would all beat the hell out of each other. Actually that’s when I killed a man and it was all downhill from there.”
HTF – The first band you saw live who blew you away?
Brian – I remember seeing Blink 182 playing in Vegas one time. it was incredible, totally blew me away. I went with Matt who plays drums in The Front Bottoms and his older brother. We waited in line, we got drunk, it was just such an exciting time, the whole experience just blew me away.”
HTF – The First time you won something?
Brian – “When I was young there was a carnival in town and had a baseball throwing game, you had to throw the ball at the exact same speed two times in a row. I did it! Twice! Something like 30mph and I won some big blow up hammer thing.”
The Rose EP from The Front Bottoms is out right now.
