McFly – Room On The Third Floor
I still remember the first time I ever saw the name McFly. I was reading my monthly copy of Bliss magazine in bed one Saturday morning as a 13 year old girl. “These guys look like fun and that drummer is super cute” I thought, and proceeded that same day to download their new debut single Five Colours In Her Hair and any other tracks that were floating around at the time from Limewire (ah, glorious were the days before YouTube and Spotify). From then on my interest, or ‘obsession’ as some liked to call it, grew and grew. The release of their debut album Room on The Third Floor in July 2014 solidified this band as my favourite. I listened to the CD so much that it started to skip and I had to buy it again.
It didn’t take long before I joined their street team and spent my allocated internet hours chatting to other fans online. Little did I know how much this decision would shape my life. This was my first experience of online friendships (going against everything we were being taught about strangers on the internet at the time) and as we all grew up together and began meeting at the same McFly gigs, I met so many people that I still consider my best and closest friends now. I would never have had so many of the experiences I have, or had so many fun times at gigs growing up if it wasn’t for meeting fellow McFly fans. My life would be so different now if I had never met these people and that is why this album is so important to me. It’s not even my favourite McFly album but will always feel very special because of how it began an obsession that changed my life in so many ways and still does to this day.
