The lads in Don Broco announced that they will be supporting 5 Seconds Of Summer on a select few UK and Europe shows this spring, and everyone seems to have an opinion of one form or another. We weighed up the pros and cons of the combination…
Pros:
- The tour will bring massive exposure to Don Broco, allowing them to play their music to new kinds of fans who may not have found a reason to listen to them before. More fans means more gigs, more music and more opportunities for them!
- The 5SOS boys are well known for their tour antics, which will most likely find Don Broco feeling right at home. Is there a #squadgoals moment in our midsts?!
- You might not want to believe it if you’re against the joining of these two bands, but Don Broco don’t sound all that different from 5 Seconds Of Summer. They might be just a little bit more rock ‘n’ roll, but there’s no denying that their sound is the perfect opener for the Sounds Live Feels Live tour.
Cons:
- Diehard Broco fans are unsurprisingly annoyed at the news, because it will mean that newer, younger fans will start listening to the band. While some would see this as a good thing, a lot of older fans often equate 5SOS fans with screaming teenage girls obsessed with an artist’s looks rather than their talent. Nobody wants to see a 12-year-old girl with a ‘marry me Rob Damiani‘ sign!
- Playing arenas and the like can be a proud moment for any band and their fans… but some would insist that it’s the end of all things. Playing bigger venues may see Don Broco losing touch with their fans and, more importantly, their roots… though it will be a while yet before they’re headlining arenas themselves!
- The truth is, 5SOS fans might not even be interested in Don Broco. All the quartet need is to come on to the stage at Manchester Arena, just to find that the floor and seats are half empty, and those who are there to watch them are mildly unimpressed. Sounds like a nightmare…
