Whilst we love new and original tracks, we also love it when new artists put their own spin and re-update tracks in ways we never expected. Just look at Fleur East’s groovy cover of Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk‘ which skyrocketed to the top of the UK Charts. Its success prompted Ronson to release the studio version with Bruno Mars ahead of its initial January release date.
We’ve reflected on some of our favourite covers which have fared better than the original version, many of which you will probably know quite well! If you’re ready to see what we’ve got to offer, read on!

1. One Direction – One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)
One Direction happen to make our list with their comic relief single ‘One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)’, a cover which combines Blondie’s and The Undertone’s respective singles. In true 1D style, the boys aren’t afraid to be cheeky donning their red noses and making their own choreography outside 10 Downing Street. However all jokes aside, the charity single was a great way of bringing attention to Comic Relief, a cause close to the boys’ hearts.

2. U2 (ft. Mary J. Blige) – One
Before they forced their way onto our iTunes, U2 originially released ‘One‘ over twenty years ago back in 1992. However in 2006, the band re-recorded the track with soul powerhouse Mary J. Blige. What makes the song so prevalent is the alternative interpretations people can bring to it, whether it’s about a rollercoaster relationship or even about empowerment and carrying each other along. Mary J’s addition proved so popular that the re-recording reached 5 notches higher than the original to peak at #2 on the UK Singles Chart.
