The Rock A – Z brings us to ‘J’, for Jimmy Eat World. The Arizona four-piece formed in 93, starting out in their local punk scene. With eight albums under their belt, the band have matured from their early roots to become the shimmering pop-rock musicians that they are known for now. Their music has inspired many in the pop-punk scene, including Paramore, who have covered the band’s track ‘Sweetness‘ on recent tours.
The band’s sophomore album ‘Bleed American‘, which was re-released later as simply ‘Jimmy Eat World’, following the September 11 attacks, contained their most famous single ‘The Middle‘, peaking at number 5 in the US charts. The track encapsulates Jimmy Eat World‘s trademark sound, a blend of teen-angst with a souring chorus line and an overwhelmingly positive message.
