Anyone who suffers from migraines will back us up on this one: migraines are the worst thing ever. A daith piercing may be the answer to your prayers – apparently these piercings, placed in the cartilage behind your tragus, can help to ease the malaise of a migraine.
Dr. Thomas Cohn, an interventional pain doctor, blogged about daith piercings earlier this year.
“Recently, some people who have received a Daith piercing have coincidentally found improvement with their migraine headaches. It is not universal, and it is has not been studied formally. The correlation is based on the success for some people with acupuncture in the same region of the Daith piercing,” he said. Cohn also added that, while a daith piercing “may be worthwhile” for migraine sufferers who like piercings, acupuncture would also be a viable alternative route for those who aren’t so keen on adorning their ears.
There is some anecdotal evidence that a daith piercing may be the key to abating headache hell. Sheri Utect, a 44-year-old serial migraine sufferer, told the Daily Mail that her constant head pains virtually disappeared after getting her daith piercing. “It sounds crazy and I couldn’t quite believe it at first but I read up on it afterwards and apparently this piercing really can help with headaches,” she commented. A quick Google search brings up dozens of similar daith piercing success stories.
We’re sold on the idea – even though there’s a possibility a piercing couldn’t help with our migraine troubles, daith piercings certainly look pretty. So, if you needed an excuse to get a new piercing in time for the party season (or were just looking for a way to shut your parents up the next time they question your body modification choices) then let this be it.
