Hit the Floor Does LFW: A Fashion Week Newbie Takes on the Designer Showrooms

What happens when London’s unfashionable meet London Fashion Week? They hit the Designer Showrooms for a bit of style education, of course! Esin Akan’s accessories were a particular highlight…

If I could sketch my experience of London Fashion Week, I wouldn’t have had to have gone very far for the resources to do so. Arriving at Brewer Street Car Park, I was met with moving figures wearing aisle 4 of WHSmith – you know, the aisle where you can find all manner of coloured lead for shading in the latest edition of your adult colouring book. Around the head, collar and arms of models were strategically structured collections of colouring pencils, tied together to form head pieces and necklaces to act as eccentric accessories… It’s no wonder they always say fashion isn’t made for practicality. Well unless you’re always looking for a colouring pencil, then this accessory would prove extremely useful.

From cloth to clutch and hats to halters, through the rose-tinted glass of the Sunglasses Hut stand, the abundance of talent, creativity and diversity were clearly visible.

Emerging onto the second level showroom I was instantly enthralled by the stands, stalls and shelves of today’s best British fashion players. Items varied in colour, functionality and design, each showing the designer’s individuality and their concepts, particularly Esin Akan, a brand offering stylish handbag solutions for the busy, independent woman. Akan’s ambition? “Helping busy women look stylish in every situation – from the office to weekends with friends, nights out, and even the gym.” Akan’s designs burst with individuality and versatility, with a highlight being her 3-in-1 bags, created to change in style and become way more than just the one handbag – decidedly better than buying three individual bags! Marrying convenience and style, Esin Akan bags can be tweaked as you wish if you fancy matching them to your outfits. The sleek, subtle materials can also be modified.
