A lawsuit has been filed against Nasty Gal, alleging the company fired four employees after they became pregnant.
Aimee Concepion, a former Nasty Gal employee, has taken legal action against the company due to her contract being terminated shortly after informing her supervisors that she was pregnant. She broke her baby news in April 2014, shortly after receiving a promotion as well as consistent set of positive performance reviews, and was then told that her contract with the company would be terminated.
Concepion was fired along with three other employees who were either expecting babies or had just become new parents: Anne Coelen, who was about to return from maternity leave; Etalia Gold, who was two months pregnant; and Gilberto Murillo, who was due to start paternity leave. Additionally, Rosa Lieberberg, the brand’s Senior Content Editor, was allegedly fired at the end of last year just weeks after revealing her pregnancy to fellow staff members.
Despite all the gorgeous clothes they’re churning out, the brand haven’t really been on the right side of the press recently. Last month the brand’s social media team blundered by claiming that Taylor Swift‘s Balmain jumpsuit was actually a Nasty Gal design (luckily, Olivier Rousteing believes imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), and anonymous reviews of the brand’s working environment online are hardly encouraging.
A quick scan of Glassdoor, a website which allows employees to anonymously review their employers, reveals that only 14% of employees who have posted reviews approve of the company’s former CEO, Sophia Amoruso, who stepped down from the position in January 2015 but continues her role as Nasty Gal’s founder and executive chairman.

So, yet again, this is more bad news for Amoruso and her fashion empire. It’s a shame as all of this contradicts everything Amoruso wrote in her wonderful book, #GirlBoss, which was full of messages about female empowerment in the workplace.
