Bum-Baring Jeans Are a Thing and We’re Not Sure How We Feel About It

So, it’s now cool to wear jeans that gape open over your bum cheeks. Imagine wearing them down to the shops though… awkward.

So, it’s now cool to wear jeans that gape open over your bum cheeks. It’s 2016 and, honestly, we probably shouldn’t be surprised by this, particularly given how we accept (and some of us actually admire) the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan’s affinity for wearing nude bodystockings with the same frequency that most of us wear socks. Of course, we can partly place the blame on the omnipresent reality TV family for making bum-slashed jeans A Thing. Namely, we can blame Kylie Jenner, who made waves across the internet after uploading a rather cheeky (ha) picture to Instagram. Again, we probably shouldn’t be surprised by this as the Kardashian-Jenners are nothing without their surgically enhanced derrieres, but just imagine wearing those jeans out in public. Imagine.

However, Kylie hasn’t been the first celeb to jump on this micro-trend. Millie Mackintosh, of Made in Chelsea fame, also grabbed five seconds of Mail Online sidebar fame after uploading her own pic to the ‘gram of her ripped jeans.

Fancy recreating the look for yourself and your own Instagram followers? Bum rip jeans are currently available from Urban Outfitters, Missguided and a store we’ve never heard of before called Lasula, which seems to churn out everything that Instamodels and regular celebs wear in social media uploads. Whether this micro-trend will escalate into a mass-market craze, only time will tell.
