The rumour mill has been in overdrive the last few weeks with speculation rising that Alexander Wang would be leaving Balenciaga, with an official statement detailing: “There are discussions between the designer and Balenciaga regarding the renewal of the contract,” but we didn’t think it would actually happen!

After over three years as the brand’s creative director, Wang’s contract hasn’t been renewed for not only Balenciaga, but also its parent company Kering, meaning both parties will be taking new directions, albeit prematurely.

Wang’s predecessor, Nicholas Ghesquière, directed the brand for a lengthy fifteen years.

While no further rumours have circulated for the reasoning behind the Wang’s departure from Balenciaga, perhaps more light will be shed after his final runway show this fall, which will showcase his spring/summer 2016 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Having previously designed collections for H&M, Wang is still relatively fresh into success in fashion so it’s early days to know which direction he’ll go next, but definitely exciting. Ranking in The Times 100 Influential People of 2015, expect great things to come next from Alexander Wang.
