Four years is a long fucking time. Can you believe it’s been that long since we had a new Yashin album? That’s right, We Created A Monster came out way back in 2012, and we’d be lying if we said we haven’t been pining over our boys all this time. So, sitting here with a new copy of The Renegades, we’re gonna tear the lid of this beast.
So where do we start? Well let’s kick of with stating that the classic Yashin formula that we’ve grown to love has returned with force. As proven with 2014 single ‘D.E.A.D’ , Yashin’s hybrid of heavy and melodic vocals is a combo that just works. That track has even been given a quick facelift and made the track list. This balance of melodic and rough vocals is present throughout the entire release too, with singers Harry Radford and Kevin Miles seamlessly bouncing off each other from track to track, keeping the energy levels at cranked to maximum.
The Renegades is the next step in the evolutionary chain for Yashin. We’re gonna go on record and say that this is the heaviest record yet from the band. Incorporating more ‘metal’ elements through colossal riffs and louder drums. ‘Stockholm Sinner’ blew our minds with it’s monstrous opening guitar and infectious sing along chorus. It’s difficult to find any negatives in the release at all, but if we had to pick one it’d be rapping section on ‘Dorothy Gale’. It was the same with the Lil Wayne part on Limp Bizkit‘s ‘Ready To Go’ , it just left us feeling ejected from the rest of the track, and didn’t really feel necessary.
One minor niggle doesn’t take away from an absolute boss of a rock record. Other notable mentions are ‘Long Live Salvation’, ‘The Beginning Of The End’, ‘Dead Spells’ and previously released single, ‘Vultures’. Having a love for a band be reignited after such a long hiatus is a feeling you don’t get everyday, it’s pretty special. Yashin have used their time off wisely and forged created a titan of record, which is so satisfying for those who’ve been waiting for it. With the majority of the new year still ahead, let’s hope the The Renegades isn’t the only big thing to come out of Yashin in 2016. We wanna see more of you guys real soon!
