Yorkshire hardcore five piece, Road To Horizon, are back with their latest offering, ‘Faultlines‘, and it looks as if they’re going from strength to strength.
Upon first listen, the EP is, in a word, flawless. It has everything you could want from a newer band on an already overcrowded scene: strong vocals, great production and songs that lend themselves well to live situations. Once in a while, a new EP comes along that is so fantastic, that you could wax lyrical all day about. Well this is one of those. But it’s all very well throwing those kinds of compliments around. Let us give you a more in depth analysis and you can see for yourselves why it’s so impressive.
Opening up the EP, is its title track, ‘Faultlines‘. Incidentally, this is the band’s current single and rightly so. Striking up the balance between pushing boundaries and being listenable isn’t easy; however, Road To Horizon do this with such flair, flitting between heavy verses and choruses that contain crystal clear vocals.
‘Sirens‘ tips the balance to being accessible, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t capable of packing a punch. On the contrary, this track is loaded with an all or nothing kind of energy and fraught with an air of urgency. This is one track that is sure to be a staple on Road To Horizon’s live set.
Musical prowess is all very well, but the band’s talent for writing honest, frank lyrics lies heavily with ‘Tonight Is Our Night‘. The title might have you expecting some syrupy ballad. How wrong you’d be. While the guys take the pace down a couple of notches, this track is by no means a snooze fest. This song see’s both Ben Flockton and Chris McIntosh attack every line with heartfelt conviction.
‘Victimised‘, on the other hand ramps things up to 11 to say the least and carries on the guys’ strong songwriting abilities, catapulting it even higher than before.
Road To Horizon have outdone themselves a tremendous amount by offering up an EP that is not only thoroughly enjoyable to listen to but exudes so much promise. There is very little criticism to be given on ‘Faultlines’. Well…there is one. We wish there were more tracks. Yes, it is that incredible.
