Since the release of his major label debut “Radioactive” Yelawolf has put in a ridiculous amount of work. Mixtapes and collab albums have helped further Yelawolf’s growth, and his own pocket of white trash hip-hop. Since dropping his album, Yela’s been diversifying his sound, pushing what he’s know for to the limits on “Trunk Music Returns“, to getting back to the bare bone essentials “Psycho White“. Despite the quality of the releases, they all seemed to be lacking the sound that made Yela famous in the first place. This is a problem “Black Fall” corrects. The production is handled by Three Six Mafia’s DJ Paul, and he seems to know exactly what beats Yela doesn’t just sound good on, but is perfect for. Yela sounds reenergised, but also massively confident. He rarely utilises his rapid fire flow or aggressive flow, and usually raps in mellow tones whilst still managing to butcher the track. “Party Prophet” references some of his earlier work. With sounds reminiscent of his more ATLien sounds. But comes with a heavy bass filled beat that grounds the occasionally trippy lyricism. At five tracks the project should feel too short, but the tracks are paced in a way that will leave you wanting more but satisfied enough to keep returning to it. “Black Fall” shows Yelawolf fans a glimpse of what they’ve been missing, and why they shouldn’t write him off just yet.
