Band: Together, We Fight
Release: Get A New Hero (EP)
Release Date: Out Now
After quite a while away from the Kent music scene, the brilliant Together, We Fight return back to the circuit with a brand new lineup and a brand new four-track EP entitled ‘Get A New Hero‘. Originally a 6-piece, two previous members have left and are now a quintet, with the most recent addition being Josh Austin (ex-Promise Me Tomorrow). So it really is a genuine pleasure to see these guys back and kicking it just as they know best!
The release is crammed full with some delightfully infectious pop-punk riffs and rhythms, which although do not necessarily re-invent the wheel are an absolute joy to listen to regardless. But this is the beauty of it, sometimes you do not necessarily have to be a bit more forward thinking, sometimes the best formula to great songwriting is just to stick to what you know best.
Particular standout track is most definitely the awesome ‘I Used To Play Bill Sykes (On The West End)’. A hyperactive, uplifting and anthemic tune with an absolutely blinding chorus and outro, that is absolutely sure to be a future live favourite. The same goes to the song ‘Smasher Jackson‘, yet another hooky sing/shout along that is worthy of a proper great mosh.
However, there is a minor flaw that unfortunately does hold back the true potential of this EP. One of the main things that does let it down slightly is some elements of the production. For example, in the title track ‘Get A New Hero‘, the vocal recording seems a little hollow and the mixing/panning could have been improved. Although this is by far the weakest song on the album, it does not mean that it is a bad song by any means, as the songwriting is absolute quality. It just needs a little tweaking to make it that much more ‘fuller’. What should be pointed out however, is that the production done on the instruments is very tight, warm and crisp which should be merited highly.
‘Get A New Hero‘ is a great yet brief EP of catchy, melodic anthems that are sure to satisfy pop-punk and rock fans for sure, especially if you love your bands like Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, etc. To get the real deal about Together, We Fight, they project their songs the best live when they truly are an untouchable force to be reckoned with. Despite the production based inconsistencies, this EP is a promising outlook of what the future will hold for the band. Keep an eye on this lot in 2013!
