Band: Sonic Boom Six
Release: The High Cost of Living EP
Release Date: Out Now
Sonic Boom Six are a band who defy categorisation. Most would class them as a rock band, although most of the backing music in their tracks sounds either like ska, or EDM.
The title track of the ‘High Cost of Living’ EP, definitely sounds more ska-inspired, similar to the sounds of The Skints. As far as vocals go, they share a lot with South African group Die Antwoord, both female vocalists have the same whiny quality to their voices and the males sound like they’ve been plucked straight from the hip-hop scene. The breakdown sounds like someone has played a heavy guitar over a Skrillex track.
The second tracks introduction features sinister strings which are eventually overtaken by the chavy tones of electro and rap.
Arguably, the final track, ‘People Acklike They Don’t Know’ (Live in Bristol) is the best track on the EP. It definitely sound rockier than the rest of the songs, although it proves that Laila K’s voice is just as annoying when she speaks as when she sings.
If you are here looking for a good rock band to check out, Sonic Boom Six definitely aren’t what you’re looking for. In fact, unless you are a fan of Die Antwoord, I wouldn’t recommend this band at all.
