Album: You And Me
Release Date: 04/11/13
Following his Westlife success Shane Filan has come out with his first solo album ‘You & Me’.
The first track on the album ‘Everything To Me’ sounds very James Blunt in the vocals, in fact the entire album does. And you get aspects of ‘Edge Of Glory’ in the background of the chorus. Then the album goes back to the Westlife style track with ‘About You’, which we are used to hearing with Filan.
‘All You Need’ is very Daniel Bedingfield in vocal style; the track in itself is slower and more chilled out which is in keeping with the album style. ‘Knee Deep In My Head’ has more of an upbeat tempo and in its pacing has more of a Frank Turner vibe to it. And in the chorus this track sounds oddly familiar to ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii.
By the fifth track on the album you really feel as though you have heard most of the album already. ‘One Of These Days’ has a very Hawaiian sunshine feel to it with the ukulele having a very prominent part to play in the track, giving a Bruno Mars feel to the track. The next track ‘Everytime’ would not feel out of place on a One Direction album. The vocals on the track sound very similar to those of Harry Styles. When listening to ‘Story Of My Life’ and ‘Everytime’ I had trouble differentiating between their vocals.
Again with ‘When I Met You’ you get that very Bruno Mars feel again, as the track is very pop and upbeat. And then we get right back into Westlife again with ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Alright’, it’s slower paced and clearly written about his wife, trying to downplay the stuff their family went through, with the line “Everything’s gonna be alright” repeated throughout the track.
‘Baby Lets Dance’ has a more 60’s vibe and feels very similar to the Westlife cover of ‘Uptown Girl’. It’s more upbeat than the rest of the alum and is a nice change of pace amongst all the ballads. Lastly the album finished on the lead single and title track ‘You And Me’.
6/10
