After gaining such a great reception since the release of his first record ‘Focus’, singer songwriter Ryan Keen is back with his second EP ‘Back To The Ocean’. If you’re a fan of Jack Johnson and Damien Rice, look no further for your new favourite artist.
The songs are effortless yet full of emotion and grace. If you ever wondered what a sunset on a summer’s day would sound like, this EP is just that. Keen’s husky, soothing vocals are accompanied by the simplicity of an acoustic guitar. It’s easy to close your eyes, relax and be taken to a completely different place. The use of echoing in ‘Know About Me’ stirs such a sense sentiment and feeling. The EP as a whole is so relatable that it holds an instant connection to its listener, making his voice feel almost familiar.
Lyrically the songs are cute enough to rival those of Ed Sheeran. Words such as ‘when I found her heart, it’s when I felt at home’ in ‘Old Scars’ are memorable and thought provoking. This EP strips back to basics and really focuses on creating passion and a feeling of warmth within each song. Sometimes it is the most uncomplicated of records that can be the most powerful.
