Artist: Race Car Hearts

Release: Aches/Escapes (EP)

Release Date: Out now!

Race Car Hearts is the solo project of singer Chris Perrin. We were first introduced to his music when he supported Tyler Hilton in Portsmouth last month and so decided to check out his recent four-track EP ‘Aches/Escapes’.

It starts with the catchy and uplifting ‘Lights’, that mixes rock with electro perfectly. Chris’ strong distinctive vocals are immediately recognised, especially when he repeats the phrase “my way” in the chorus.

Next up is ‘From The Sky They Came’, which may sound notably similar to previous track ‘Lights’ upon its opening, but once underway offers something unique. Again it carries on this indie-rock vibe and proves to be another very strong track, which has a bit of a Coldplay resemblance at some points.

While it’s hard to pick a favourite, personally ‘Circles’ stands out from all the rest. It brings about a change in style, which is welcomed when the three other tracks are very rock driven. As well as ‘Circles’ being more stripped back due to beginning with just an acoustic guitar, it’s also got a folky country feel to it, which blends perfectly with Chris’ voice.

We’re then back to that rock vibe again with last track ‘Shimmer’, which is a great way to end the EP. It’s another catchy track with a strong chorus where again Chris’ vocals really stands out.

Race Car Hearts has definitely made an impression with this EP. It consists of rock, electro and acoustic elements, while blending together impressive melodies, solid arrangements and strong vocals.

Aches/Escapes’ is a unique EP and if you’re in need of some new music then I would definitely recommend giving this a listen.
