In the last several years or so the competitive alternative rock scene in the UK has produced a number of new raw talented artists all hoping to carry the flag for their genre. In and amongst those bands, one in particular stands out from the crowd, residents of the northern city of Leeds, Morain.
‘Are We Lost’ is a debut EP as strong as any, and can be appreciated for both its in depth musical beauty and sentimental grandeur on each and every listen.
Employing a pleasant balance of emotionally ridden lyricism and a delicate yet striking melodic approach on album opener and title track, the band follow through to ‘Animals’ which grants more focus on the bands intriguing chord patterns.
‘The World We Live In’ can be acknowledged for its prodigious pop anthems which highlights the bands capability of implementing capturing lyrical hooks without going all cliché and dry on us. The melodic drives and enduring bass- lines offer up an intelligent listen which breaks off the band’s sound from that of their peers, culminating in a musical joy ride that isn’t often experienced in modern day music.
The melodic hooks are continued through to ‘Between The Lines’ which expands the virtuosity of the bands melodies which are by far their greatest musical trait. Employing further spells of their distinctive lyrical anthems which are highlighted by their mammoth drum hits providing the soundtrack to a band who have done more than impress on this fantastic debut, which provides vast quantities of overwhelming musical attributes that will see fit that Morain will become a household name the world over, in the not so distant future.
