R&B songbird Mariah Carey has been arousing hype of her new single, ‘The Art Of Letting Go’, for quite some time now, and now it’s received its official debut.
Yesterday, on 11/11/13 at 11am United States time (4pm in the UK), Carey held a listening party and Q&A for fans as she premiered the song via her official Facebook page.
Her ever loyal ‘Lambily’ were raising awareness on Twitter with the hashtags ‘MariahCarey’, ‘LettingGo’ and ‘MC1111’ in the hour leading up to the unveiling. Arriving a few fashionable minutes late, the songstress unveiled the inspirational piano led ballad that is ‘The Art Of Letting Go’, and it was warmly welcomed by fans on Faceboook and Twitter alike.
As the song progresses, it builds to an electric climax with Carey belting the lyrics with soul and conviction. It’s complete with a gospel choir toward the final part. The lyrics document how it is difficult to let go or release oneself from anything that could be holding them back.
This is Carey at her best. Classic, refined, simplistic. No auto tune, not trashy lyrics, not following trends. This serves as a reminder to all other artists why Carey has achieved the career she possesses. Her dulcet tones possess warmth and her belts produced with clear power. We can’t wait to see what the music video will be like.
If it takes on a visual as strong as Katy Perry‘s ‘Roar’ or Lady Gaga‘s ‘Applause’, then it, combined with extraordinary hype and decent promotion, could provide Carey with the winning combination for commercial success on the charts which she hasn’t had for some years now.
‘The Art of Letting Go‘ is the second single to be lifted from her upcoming album of the same name, following ‘#Beautiful’ featuring Miguel, which peaked at number 15 on the US Hot 100 and 22 on the UK Singles Chart. Take a listen to it below!
