Name: Loadstar [Xample & Lomax]
Release: Link To The Past (Single)
Release Date: 27th September 2010
The photo below is of me on the last HTF club night. I am wearing a RAM Records tshirt, with pride, and with good reason! RAM basically is the label when it comes to Drum and Bass and they have had everybody who is anybody in the scene.. Right back from when they were founded in 1992 by the legend Andy C topresent day. Origin Unknown who then became The Ram Trilogy, Sub Focus, DJ Fresh, Xample, Lomax… Loadstar is a combination of the latter two and when their latest offering was sent to me in the post I actually couldn’t wait to hear it out.
“Link to the Past“. Yes.. so I can see exactly where that title came from. The percussion side of things is definitely 1990’s-esq jungle, being dealt with a very dry snare and simple high hats. Think Alex Reece..
The blurb supplied with the track states “Link to the Past is the track of the year so far. Rare fact: it is getting the unusual treatment of not being mixed in, but dropped on it’s own stright from the start..”
I’d image this is true and probably at the end of sets (someone comment if I’m wrong?) as the track has a very euphoric synth – you know the sort.. would send chills down your back and get the hairs standing on end. Reminds me of the sorts of scores produced by David Wise (10 points to anyone who knows who David is without Google’in his name, and I will have a post dedicated to him later in the month !! )
The track lacks any real bridge, it reuses the same dull sample at 2:11 as it did right from the start which was a small let down for me… however I still instantly liked it.
Out September 27th on a double ‘A’ side with their other single “Rapidas”
3 /5 yeeeeeeeey :)
