Artist: Little Mix
Release: DNA
Release Date: Out Now
Little Mix broke X Factor tradition last year to become not only the first girl band to even get past the half way mark of the competition, but they also became the first group to ever win the X Factor. X Factor winners have always been a bit hit and miss with the runners up having more staying power than the winners themselves, so Little Mix’s debut album was always going to be unknown territory.
The bands first single from the album ‘Wings’ was an instant success, topping the charts with it’s fast paced, hip-shaking beat about ignoring the people who put you down. The bands next single ‘DNA’ showed off a darker side to the band and the urban edge to this pop song develops the bands sound.
Each of the girls originally auditioned as solo artists to the reality show and ultimately when they were put together they were four girls who could all sing and not one front woman with a few backing singers. The strength of the bands vocals is impeccable. Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud helped co-write Latin enthused number ‘Going Nowhere’ which begins with a plucky guitar tune and includes a rap from Jesy which shows off her impeccable vocal abilities.
The girls show off their true talents with a mixture of bouncy pop numbers with an equal mixture of slower ballads which all sit perfectly side by side. ‘Always Stay Together’ and ‘Change Your Life’ mix soft soulful piano’s with beautiful harmonies. ‘Change Your Life’ is also the perfect way of showcasing the girls mixture of musicial talents with Leigh-Anne’s urban roots which mixed with Jesy’s larger than life soulful voice alongside Perrie and Jade’s sweet harmonies make this song a future hit.
The band have certainly cemented their place in the hearts of many people and established themselves as the most current and up to date girl band with big voices and big sounds.
