Review: Juelz Santana – God Will’n

Read what HTF thought of Juelz Santana’s mixtape, God Will’n here!

Juelz-Santana-God-Willin

Remember Juelz Santana? Well if you don’t, you certainly won’t forget him after this.

Due to studio raids and a number of other issues, it’s been a while since Juelz got back into the studio, produced and actually finished a mixtape since Blow – a collaboration with Lil Wayne. However, he’s back with God Will’n, a massive 17-track mixtape, featuring the likes of Rick Ross, Jerimih, Wiz Khalifa and Fabulous.

It feels as though we’ve been transported back to 2006, right from the start with Sho Nuff, Santana stays true to his New York roots with his delivery, and the rawness of tracks such as Bodies and Shootem Up prove that the rapper has come a long way since his Whistle Song days.

The production quality is exceptional, with the beats in tracks such as Nothing To Me and Clickin standing out amongst the rest.

Most of the tracks have steered clear from mainstream hip-hop r’n’b, but a few tracks still remain with catchy hooks that are sure to be a hit on the club scene (Turn It Up), and with a  semi-sentimental track called Awesome thrown in for good measure, this mixtape covers all bases.

It could be argued that this is more of an album than a mixtape, but who are we to complain?! In the words of the man himself:

“Don’t call it a comeback, f**k it! Call it a comeback. An’ this right here is a grudge match.”

Santana is back, and from the sheer grit and fighting mentality shown in this mixtape, we have a feeling he’s here to stay.
