Artist: James Blake
Release: Lindisfarne (Single)
Release Date: 20th June 2010
From the first listen, there is no mistaking that James Blake’s latest musical offering is seven minutes of pure relaxation. There is a hypnotic quality to his soothing tones and it’s this distinctive voice alone that opens the track. A few lines in and the delicate plucking of guitar strings and a rhythm that sounds like a steady heartbeat is introduced. The result? Any stress pleasingly fizzles away and is replaced with the appreciation of Blake’s ‘simplicity is best’ musical style.
His lyrics, on the other hand, are deep and ambiguous, but this is the beauty of his work. The star proved this to us when he stunned with Limit to Your Love. One listen to Lindisfarne and you feel not only like you’ve listened to a song, but also to a beautiful piece of poetry.
It’s no surprise then, that his album sales have globally topped 170k. Not too bad for a debut at all. That’s not all: the double A release of Lindisfarne and Unluck – two excellent choices from his debut album – is backed by the singer’s first big UK tour. Blake will be performing at Glastonbury, Field Day and Bestival.
Listen to the effortlessly soulful voice of James Blake and unwind. Lindisfarne is out now.
