Imagine The Prodigy turning up everything to volume 11, merging with powerful alternative music and using synths to maximum effect. The result would be the Australian alternative electronic quartet Invaders. With enough power to knock a horse off its feet and hooks and riffs that stay with you, these guys are a force not to be messed with.
The EP opens up with Gene Clark pummelling on the drums to the single of ‘Hummingbird’, Tyrone Bain giving a superb vocal performance, along with the amazing use of synths provided by Alex Raffaelli. Don’t be fooled into thinking they’re just a rock band with a keyboard, as second track ‘Vapour’ finds its way into the land of dubstep, yet the power and Dan Mann’s guitars turn this track into a superb piece of music.
‘Stand Still And Listen’ sounds heavily influenced by Pendulum’s later work, but the entire influence is dismissed in the fantastic party track ‘Three’s A Crowd’, with Gene and Tyrone occasionally stealing the limelight by supplying vast amounts of energy against Alex’s synths, pulling off better dubstep breakdowns than the latest Korn album – so if ‘Hummingbird’ wasn’t released as a single, then this one would be it. The EP ends on the fantastic ‘English Sky’ that incorporates synths at their finest, slowing the pace of the EP to a graceful halt.
Electronic music may have its stereotypes and labels that regard it to be repetitive and boring. However, Invaders bring a new form of energy into a dying genre, and aren’t afraid to try and dominate the world with it…
