Insurgents hail from Watford, Hertfordshire and have pieced themselves together from the fragments of other bands. They’ve been around for a few years but ‘Mariabronn’ showcases their first EP and the wait certainly doesn’t disappoint. The band in all forms have had plenty of practice so what is produced from these four tracks are well oiled, hard hitting with memorable riffs and vocals.
Opening track ‘Miles Away’ is a heavy hitting start to the EP with toe tapping beats and vocals that will stick in your head. The catchy repetitive chorus will make you want to carry on singing way after the track has finished. The standards are set high and as the rest of the EP kicks in Insurgents do not disappoint.
‘Internal Reaction’ has raw, grittier guitar riffs but the melodic vocals keep the track grounded. Nothing about these tracks feel pushed or stretched, everything seems natural. Everything seems to fit – from each riff played to every drum kick and every note sung.
Title track ‘Mariabronn’ is the closing song on the EP and it’s a track which showcases the driving force behind the guitar riffs throughout the tracks along with the focused straight lined song writing. It’s the sort of track that will sound familiar – even on first listen – as they blast through lyrics such as “I feel like wandering off this broken path/Just to choke back tears of what I left behind”.
Insurgents have created four fantastically produced songs on this EP. The best is still yet to come with this band but they’ve made a blooming good start to their careers.
