Immension created a great and solid foundation with the release of their debut self-titled EP towards the beginning of this year. Now, the Sheffield quartet are ready and raring to unleash release number two – ‘The Enemy Within‘.
Maintaining their fresh and modern metal style that got so many fans hooked, the band impress from the off with titular track ‘The Enemy Within’ opening the four-song release. Hitting us with their heavy yet melodic blend, the anthem is certain to please old fans and serves as a bloody brilliant introduction to blow away the new. They hold a very Bullet For My Valentine-esque quality, and even with Jake Kearsley’s vocals bearing a striking resemblance to Matt Tuck, they manage to retain their individuality and keep us absolutely hooked! Kearsley delivers particularly well on the rapid ‘Forevermore’, switching from cleans to screams brilliantly and very expediently and selectively so.
The group take an emotive turn for ‘All That Remains’; unleashing their darker, more melodic side. Decorated with lush harmonies and dual guitars in just the right measures, the band seems to favour simplicity. They know what they can do and they craft their songs fantastically with this in mind. There’s never too much screaming, they never go overboard with guitar solos from Tim Dolan, and they keep such aspects perfectly proportioned. ‘In The Dead of Winter’ is a definite winner for us, closing the all-too-brief release in fantastic fashion, reverting back to the chugging excellence they opened the release with.
For anyone in need of more metal (which should be pretty much every metal fan ever), look no further than Immension! Now with two EPs under their belt, we’re hoping that the northern lads keep the pace up and hit us with some new material very soon!
