Band: Floods
Release: Floods (Album)
Release Date: 8th October 2012
The UK hardcore scene is certainly booming at the moment and the latest band to enter the scene is St Albans based Floods. The band have recently signed to Small Town Records where they can call Devil Sold His Soul and Shadows Chasing Ghosts (amongst others) label buddies. With the scene as it is bands are having to work even harder and pull out all the stops to create an impression. The question is does Floods debut release live up the scenes expectations?! In one word: yes.
For the past few years Floods have been lingering around the live scene, playing both local shows in and around Hertfordshire and various ones further a field. They also climbed the ranks through Red Bull Bedroom Jam and have slayed stages at many of Britain’s festivals including Hevy and Download. But now their album is about to be unleashed on the world everyone can witness the spectacle that is Floods.
The band went through a myriad of changes during the time span of the album, losing a vocalist during their time on the local scene and losing both a guitarist and drummer during this year alone. Yet these changes have only strengthened the band and left them with an album to be proud of.
The album is just like their live shows which is a whirlwind of heavy, raw energy mixing James Power’s screams with the light melody of guitarist Joe Page’s voice. The album opens strong with ‘Black Waves’ which packs plenty of punches and perfectly sums up the bands sound. Every track- right through to closer ‘Moving On’ will assault your ear drums and possibly make you want to punch something (in a good way of course). You definitely won’t be able to ignore the feeling this album will leave you with afterwards.Everything your ears will crave will be catered for from softer crooning beats like the start of ‘Permanently Temporary’ where Joe gets to show off his vocals- right through to the merciless mosh pits which will explode in your brain through tracks like ‘Jamie Tatlow’ and ‘98’.
If you’ve seen this band live then you may have an idea what you’re in for with this release, and if not then you’ve certainly been missing out. Everyone needs this cracking debut in their lives.
9/10
